Coral Reef Dive Shop’s May trip was a huge success. The weather, seas and people cooperated to make it one of the better trips I can remember. We did the usual thing at Vortex Spring on Friday and all the Open Water students did a great job. On Saturday we had 19 divers on the Island Diver for boat dives in the Gulf out of Panama City Beach. Going out of the pass I was surprised by the color of the water which was a light blue. I had never seen it that color so close to shore in Panama City. Evidently the south wind that had been blowing for a month pushed the clear offshore water in. The first dive was on Span 14 and the visibility was 60ft. or more. The second dive on the Black Bart was just as clear. Everyone got to see a Goliath Grouper and tons of fish.
Sunday we did the Red Sea and the Strength. Once again the vis was very good with about 40ft. at the Red Sea and about 30 at the Strength.
We ended up with 7 new Open Water divers, Sherrie Serpas, Sharel Kenny, Dan Steilberg, Jayson Savoy, Shawn Dare, Andrew Failla and Will Guenard. Two people completed their Advanced Open Water dives, Aarron Crawford and Bethany Crawford. Congratulations to all.
